Lawyers

Our Founders' Vision

In 1943, Henry Foley and Garrett Hoag sought to establish a different kind of law firm.  They were determined to hire the very best lawyers based entirely on individual merit, a departure from the exclusionary practices elsewhere in that era, and to practice in new and exciting areas that more traditional Boston firms were slow to recognize.  In the years since they began their collaboration, we have remained committed to their goals and to the proposition that the excellence of Foley Hoag’s legal product is its hallmark.

A Dynamic Practice

Today, nearly 250 Foley Hoag partners, associates and counsel practice law at the highest level in business transactions and litigation matters throughout the United States and around the world. Clients seek us out for our innovative approaches to their complex business transactions and disputes, and for premier legal services in areas including intellectual property, patent and trademark law, labor and employment, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, government strategies, environmental law, and white collar investigations and defense.  We enjoy strength and balance across our diverse practice areas, enabling us to anticipate and adapt to the ever-changing needs of our clients.  Our lawyers can expect a challenging practice, with significant responsibility and client contact early in their careers, and the opportunity for professional development in a flexible work environment.  We are dedicated to providing the very highest quality legal services, and our successes are the direct result of the caliber of the professionals who join us.

Is This the Firm for You?

Foley Hoag lawyers are innovative, energetic and entrepreneurial, and our new lawyers must possess these same traits.  We seek lawyers who have excelled academically, who are motivated and intellectually curious, and whose intelligence, character and creativity will inspire the confidence of clients and colleagues.  Our lawyers must have the maturity and sound judgment to deal directly with clients from the very outset.

We seek lawyers who will contribute to the firm’s cooperative and supportive environment, where team work and the talents and views of others are valued and respected.  We want lawyers who take initiative, who continually strive for and achieve excellence, and who are motivated by a desire to make a difference –- not only in their profession, but in their community as well.
